When to Let Go of Your Expectations
"The main thing in making art often is letting go of your expectation and your idea." -Agnes Martin
There is something to be said about organically made art. It is freeing to go into a painting with no expectations for the outcome. However, it's not always feasible...
When you are learning a new technique, your practice paintings need to be very expectation-oriented. You should have an idea in mind of how they need to turn out for you to demonstrate the appropriate use of the technique.
That's the point and benefit of deliberate practice. It shows your grasp of the concept. ✍
But once you have learned a technique and secured it in your tool belt, that's when it gets fun!
Now, it is time to show your growth. 🌱
During your artist date, let go. Trust yourself and let the paint guide you.
You already know how to do it. Give yourself permission to prove it.
Hand-painted live in Adobe Photoshop CC using the Wacom Intuos Pro and the Wacom Art Pen.
