Waiting on Your Inner Artist

“If I create from the heart, nearly everything works; if from the head, almost nothing.” -Marc Chagall

Have you ever had an idea for a painting that just didn't pan out? A composition gone wrong?

I've come to find when a project I think is a grand idea doesn't work out it is because my heart isn't in it. Yes, I am working hard, figuring out exactly where everything should go, pushing forward, striving to finish...but then, I just don't.

It either doesn't reach the conclusion I thought it would or it just doesn't get finished.

It can cause frustration, panic, and a multitude of other undesirable feelings, and all you're trying to figure out is WHAT IS HAPPENING?!? 😱

When you're first learning to paint, you're going to have to think about what you're doing, where your brush is going, and why your brush needs to be the way it is. However, once you learn to master a skill, doing all of that thinking can make your inner artist fall dormant.

Your inner artist NEEDS freedom to create! So, once you've learned the skill, do yourself a favor and trust yourself to just paint.

Don't let your mind take over what is meant to come from the heart. Otherwise, you'll just be waiting around for something that isn't coming.
