The Thing About Time
“Life is the art of drawing without an eraser.” -John W. Gardner
Art provides us the luxury of starting over when things don't go exactly how we planned. Let's be honest, there is an ugly part to every painting, and sometimes, you just can't find your way back out of it. And that's okay! There will be times you just need to step away or start over to get a fresh perspective and not be so bogged down with what you are looking at.
Yet, even with the luxury of the "do-over," time is such a precious resource that we try to make as few "mistakes" as possible. We understand that time spent is time gone when it comes to our work.
Well, we don't get do-overs in life. Once a word is said or an action is done to someone else, we can't take it back. We can try to improve upon it or try to clarify it, but it is out there for observation and interpretation. It has used the time it is going to use, and you can't get that time back.
It's easy to tear someone down, but did you know it takes an equal amount of time to build someone up? Some may argue with that point because if someone is already torn down, it does take more effort to build them back up. But why start tearing someone down in the first place?
One artist can't satisfy every customer. We need one another to grow and be energized. That is what Beyond the Brushes is all about. Support, community, and togetherness in the quest to become better versions of ourselves professionally and personally.
Remember this: One artist on top of the world will always feel down in the trenches, overwhelmed, unsatisfied, and underappreciated for all of the time spent.
Don't put yourself in the position where you are striving for that outcome. Instead, let's build an entire city of artists, where we can rise to the occasion, appreciate our differences, and energize one another's creativity.
