Schedule the Date
“Painting is just another way of keeping a diary.” -Pablo Picasso
Have you ever been through a phase? No, I'm not talking about your angsty teen years. 😂 But it is a similar concept.
As artists, we grow our skills in a particular type of painting. We struggle, learn, grow, struggle, learn, grow, and the pattern continues. However, this growth is limited to broad generalized types of paintings, such as human portraits, animal portraits, or landscapes.
Let me tell you. One of the last things you develop through all of your struggles is your style, and once you get it, it is SO easy to get stuck in a rut.
There is nothing wrong with taking a break for a bit and just enjoying being on your mountaintop for a while. 🌄🙌 Eventually, you will start to feel a tug at your heartstrings. A certain restlessness or lack of satisfaction in your work.
That, my friend, is your inner artist. And it is begging you to spend some quality time with it again, begging to feel the rush of adventure, the accomplishment that only comes from a challenge, the exhilaration of trying something new.
You need to schedule a date with your inner artist. It doesn't have to be every day, but the more you put off that date to complete client work, the less of a connection you will feel to your inner artist.
The creativity will wane as you stick to what you know and what you do best. Reignite your passion, and have an artistic date with yourself. Reconnect with your inner artist and salvage the relationship.
Because if you have reached this point in your painting career (most artists do at some point), you have neglected your inner artist long enough. Schedule the date.
Hand-painted in Adobe Photoshop CC using the Wacom Intuos Pro and the Wacom Art Pen.
