Rufus Wants You to Drag Your Feet

Rufus is the snooty, know it all, art critic that lives inside the mind of every artist.

Have you ever procrastinated? Now, I'm not talking about putting something off until later today. I'm talking about putting a task off to the tomorrow that never comes.

Ringing any bells?

Well, if any bell should be ringing, it should be your alarm bell, especially if the task is related to your growth as an artist. This is a classic Rufus attack that works almost universally.

You see, Rufus convinces us of the simple phrase, "I'm too busy."

He coaxes us into believing one extra word in a phrase, and BAM! 💥 He's got us.

And I say one extra word because yes, we are busy. But "too" busy? That might be a bit of an overstatement.

Want to hit Rufus where it hurts? 👊 Take away the easiest excuse he can convince you to say on a DAILY basis.

When you feel overwhelmed and "too" busy, carve out 5 minutes from your schedule to work on stuff for yourself. Once that 5 minutes starts to seem reasonable, start increasing it to 10, 15, 20, 25...you get where I'm going with this.

What Rufus doesn't want you to know is when you work on stuff for yourself that makes you happy or feel accomplished, your elevated mood actually makes you more productive! 🙌

The more you drag your feet, the more overwhelmed you become, and the more debilitating the weight of doing the work becomes. That is exactly where Rufus wants you.

Rufus is a liar.

Don't let the word "too" nuzzle its way in between I'm and busy. There is nothing wrong with being busy. It is the "too" that helps Rufus turn it into an excuse.
