Rufus Steps on Your Toes

Rufus is the snooty, know-it-all, art critic that lives inside the mind of every artist.
I race down the hall to my studio, "Move! Get out of the way!" I've got inspiration, an idea of how to do it, and the motivation to do it. The trifecta! Oh boy, is the day looking up! Right?
I get nestled in at my desk, fire up the computer, and then, this small voice creeps into my ear...
"You call this inspiration?"
Me: "Well, I thought it was..."
"This isn't THAT good of an idea."
Me: "Well, maybe it would work out..."
"Don't you know all of the other things you need to be doing?"
Me: "Yeah...you're right."
Aaaaaaaaaaaand, just like that, my trifecta vanishes. How? Why? What just happened?
When Rufus starts to undermine you, he doesn't hit you hard. Sometimes, all it takes is something to start that little train of self-doubt that everyone has in the back of their minds. Once you get on that train of thought, you hit yourself with it, and Rufus can relish in letting you do the hard work for him.
NO! Don't yourself off at the knees because Rufus stepped on your toes. Instead, find that inner fire within you and tell him like it is.
"This is inspiration because I'm INSPIRED. It is going to work because I'm DOING it. The other things can wait because I'm BUSY creating."
Better yet, ignore him altogether and prove him wrong with your actions. You're the one planted at the studio ready to go, so him stepping on your toes really just puts him in the position to trip.
Trip him up, send him on his way, and close the door behind him. You've got work to do!
