Rufus Breaks Your Streak

Rufus is a Liar
Rufus is the snooty, know-it-all, art critic that lives inside the mind of every artist.

Have you ever been on a roll and getting stuff done? Not just the regular tasks but ALL of the tasks. You're fitting in chores and practice and family time and work and fun and all of the things...then...it happens.

The productivity slump!

It feels like you have run into a brick wall when it comes to motivation. Your feet begin to drag. The couch begins to call your name during any free time that you find throughout your day. Ugh! 🤦🏻‍♀️

Where did all of that energy go!?!?!

For me, it usually starts with Rufus whispering...

"You need to take a break. Breaks are healthy for you and will improve your artwork."

"You are going to run yourself into the ground. If you get overworked, you might get sick and then you'll REALLY be missing out on getting things done!"

"I thought all work and no play made Jack a dull boy...right? Everything you're doing sure sounds like work. What about 'you time?'"

And the worst part of his whisperings? It's all things I have said before! Except, Rufus is not saying them at the right time or in the right context.

1) I am taking breaks while I am fitting in everything. My mind isn't getting stuck on only doing art, only doing chores, or only doing work. It is taking a journey through several different tasks that use different portions of my brain to make things happen.

2) If I have the energy, I am not going to run myself into the ground. In fact, I'm closer to being in a state of flow, which means my brain is happier, I am happier, and I am more likely to be healthy. Threatening doing less now to do more later is just setting myself up for actually needing to do more later.

3) When you are having fun and enjoying what you are doing, THAT IS PLAY! Just because it involves work doesn't mean it's work. Have you ever seen a serious game of tag? Kids are out of breath, running full speed, and laughing just about the whole time. It looks like work to me, but it sure is fun to them.

What Rufus is doing is he is trying to knock you off your game and break your streak. It's much easier to stay in a streak than it is to get started back after breaking it. He knows what he's doing, and now, you do too! Tell him to take a hike, and keep your streak going!
