Being on a farm, inspiration can be anywhere, but there is a chance you're so busy that you miss every opportunity. While the cold weather we have been having has made it less than appealing to stop and smell the roses, the roses need to be stopped and smelled!
I have found that...
...no matter what stage of life I, or the people around me, graduate to, there is always something to get done, which means there is always something that you can use as an excuse to stand in your way of doing what you want to be doing. Because that's being an adult, right? Putting what needs to get done before what you want to get done?
You know what they say about all work and no play.
So at some point, you have to roll down your sleeves and give your body and mind a break for a while. It's often in the quiet moments when I just let my mind wander that the inspiration comes and hits me with a club. It's a "duh, I've been here the whole time. Open your eyes!" kind of moment, but from there, I usually can't get the idea out of my head until I get something down on paper.
Be sure you're giving yourself the opportunity for those quiet, still moments. Even working dogs take naps and enjoy a lounge in the field with the cows. Trust me and give yourself a little time. You might just be surprised by what you come up with next!
