Paint for Yourself
“If you hear a voice within you say you cannot paint, then by all means paint and that voice will be silenced.” -Vincent Van Gogh
Sometimes, you just have to paint for yourself.
It's so easy to get caught up in commissions, gifts to friends, and the myriad of other paintings that end up feeling more like an obligation than a creative release at times. And when you do that, it causes quite a bit of heartache, artistic fog, and, eventually, burnout.
Recently, I have been just enjoying creating for my own pleasure. If I see a challenge that tickles the fancy of my inner artist, I do it. It's a rejuvenation of the soul that is necessary at times.
While it may seem like you're pulling too much focus from commissions, it actually will help you to come back to them with fresh eyes and a fresh mind.
Moral of the story? Work in time to paint for yourself!
Hand-painted in Adobe Photoshop CC using the Wacom Intuos Pro and the Wacom Art Pen.
