Nothin' Special
"There is nothing that special to see when looking at me.” - Gustav Klimt
Once you "make it" as an artist, there is usually some hype within your inner circle, but really, other than clients, not that many people that already "made it" get excited for you. The people who do outside of friends?
People getting started! They are a wealth of encouragement, but many times that lies in their own reflections of feeling so far away from the goal.
That's why I try to invest my time in both those who are making it and those who are just starting. Both need support, pick-me-ups, and encouragement along their artistic journeys.
Both artists, the aspiring and inspiring, have tough days, where they are ready to throw in the towel and find another path. Comparison is frequently the root of their displeasure with themselves, but I'm here to lift the veil and clear the fog before their eyes.
There is nothing that special about an artist. 🫢 Did I say that?
YES! Now, let me explain.
Each artist as an individual is a special and unique person. However, the path to earning the title "artist" is not one beyond any person's capability. If everyone wanted to be an artist in the entire world, everyone could do it. It'd be a little distressing not having doctors, engineers, teachers, custodians, nurses, veterinarians, farmers, accountants, and other professions, but I think you get my point.
It does not take a particular person to become an artist. It takes a particular desire. What's special lies in the desire, not in who the person is. So, if you happen to be looking at an artist or even at me and comparing, just remember, there is nothin' special.
You can do it if you put your mind to it. Don't give up, don't give in, don't compare. Keep your desire to create ablaze.
