There is so much more to an artist than just his or her painting. When you really get to know the person, you get to know the story behind the painting without having to ask.
Sometimes, a painting might just be for a silly paint. To let loose, explore, and enjoy a good time or get past a difficult time. Other times, a painting may be a restoration piece that the artist has poured his or her heart and soul into to make the past come back to life.
The options in painting are endless,...
...but the artist is the same, which means you might need to get to know the artist a little better to truly understand:
1. How did the artist get to this point?
2. What does the painting mean to the artist?
3. When did the artist know the painting was finished?
4. Where was the artist's heart and head during the creation process?
5. Why this subject? This color palette? Other creative decisions?
All questions you might want answered when studying a painting, but when you know an artist, sometimes the answers just fall into place.
