Honey of the Soul
“Art is the stored honey of the human soul.” -Theodore Dreiser
Do you know how honey is made? π― I won't bore you with all the specifics, but it definitely isn't accomplished alone.
There are forager bees, worker bees, house bees, male drones, and, of course, the queen bee. Each one has a different set of jobs that play a vital role in the production of honey. Just like bees π, artists have different specialties. From styles of art to the subjects painted, no artist is the same. We each contribute to the collective term we call "art." π©π¨π¨π¨
And just like honey, humans utilize art to nourish the next generation. Creativity doesn't have to be taught, but it does have to be nurtured. We draw what we need from the nectar of energy produced during the creative process, but the ultimate goal is an investment, a lasting impact for the future.
In nature, humans are the only species that intentionally create art. Yes, there are famous animal artists, but they are generally in captivity with a HUMAN training them. Do you know why?
It's not just about it being a good party trick. We train in and teach art because we see value in artistic expression. Our existence is more than just the ability to survive. We were made to thrive.
