Emulation is Education

Emulating another artist’s work as a means of education won’t prevent you from finding your own style.
Even when we try to copy another artist, our individuality bursts out like a weed pushes through concrete.
Knowing that the most respected master painters throughout history — Degas, Cezanne, and Rembrandt just to name a few — employed emulation (some may say “copying”) as one of their learning techniques means we can embrace emulation as one of our keys to learning without any shame whatsoever.
