Art is Success
"If you ask me what I came to do in this world, I, an artist, will answer you: I am here to live out loud.” -Émile Zola
Do you know one of the hardest parts of being an artist? Unless you're around other artists or someone who has seen behind the scenes what artists do, most of the time you will be discouraged from ever pursuing the profession.
Boy, if I had a nickel for every time I was discouraged... 💰
But why is this? Why is art viewed to be a "lesser than" profession?
Let me just point this out:
The gist of the article?
👉 People believe art should be taught in school.
👉 Schools with art programs experience improved math and reading proficiency.
👉 Art correlates with higher GPAs, lower dropout rates, and higher test scores.
👉 Cities with more art have higher civic engagement and stronger communities.
👉 Art teaches highly-coveted skills by employers.
👉 Exposure to art improves mental health and overall well-being.
So next time you feel discouraged or someone is telling you that you can't do anything with art — rather than bringing up all of the examples of successful artists — point out how art has impacted everyone's life either directly or indirectly.
There is no shame in being an artist — it is a success to be one.
